TURP (Transurethral resection of prostate):

TURP is a type of endoscopic surgery in which the prostate is entered thru the urethral orifice and the prostate is removed with electrocautery (monopolar and bipolar) and the channel is made to pass urine. Small and moderate sized glands are usually managed by TURP. This is a scarless hole less natural orifice surgery. A catheter is placed via the penis post surgery which is usually taken out after a couple of days.

HOLEP (Holmium laser enucleation of prostate):

HOLEP is a type of endoscopic prostate surgery in which the prostate is entered thru the urethral orifice and the prostate is removed with the help of Holmium laser. Large sized glands( more than 100 gms) are usually managed by HOLEP. HOLEP can be used in patients on anticoagulants as well without fear of post operative bleeding. This is a scarless hole less natural orifice surgery. A catheter is placed via the penis post surgery which is usually taken out after a couple of days.

Robotic simple prostatectomy:

Robotic simple prostatectomy is a type of minimally invasive surgery in which the abdomen is entered through small holes similar to laparoscopy and the prostate is reached. It is removed either via a small opening in the bladder or the prostatic capsule and the bleeding after the removal is controlled easily due to excellent 3D vision and access. The advantage of robotic surgery is the precision and the ease of maneuverability. Robotic simple prostatectomy results in faster recovery and early discharge as well.Robotic simple proatectomy is usually done to treat large benign prostates.

Robotic radical prostatectomy:

Robotic radical prostatectomy is a type of minimally invasive surgery in which the abdomen is entered through small holes similar to laparoscopy and the prostate is reached. The attachments are dissected including the seminal vesicles and the prostate is disconnected from the bladder and the urethra after taking control of the blood vessels. The urethra is then sutured with the bladder. The advantage of robotic surgery is the precision , 3D vision and the ease of maneuverability. Robotic simple prostatectomy results in faster recovery and early discharge as well. Robotic simple prostatectomy is usually done to treat cancerous prostates.
